About

Mission and Purpose

The mission of Vantage Points for Awe is to help people find awe in every adventure!

We should live for moments of awe, that overwhelming feeling – a combination of wonder and amazement. Scientifically, awe is said to increase our happiness and improve our physical and mental health. Awe can help us feel like we have more time and that we are more connected with others.

When we experience the world in this way, it makes us want to experience more of it. The feeling of awe has an impact on us that can be triggered and brought back at times when we need it most. It brings us peace that carries well beyond the initial moment of awe.

This community is my opportunity to promote the benefits that awe can have on our well-being and to help others find experiences that inspire awe. It isn’t always in what we look at…it is also how we look at it. When we are looking for these special moments – we are likely to find more of them!

How To

Find Awe

Awe…it’s a life thing! While in the middle of a run, I have been known to stop to get down and look closely at a recently discarded eggshell (and take a picture). I look for awe-mazement and wonder in the ordinary. I love the feeling of awe. Incorporating more awe into my life has improved my health. I want to help children and adults discover vantage points that inspire awe – and to experience the life-changing benefits of awe!

My First Memory of Awe

It was shortly following a beautiful sunset like the one above when I first remember feeling a moment of awe. As the sky darkened, it was filled with an infinite number of stars. I was lying on the floor of a boat and I realized at that moment that I could never comprehend all that the world had to offer.

That was a unique vantage point. I had traveled by boat at night a lot. There was something different about laying down on the floor and looking up…everyone and everything else blocked out. It was a great feeling.

I can bring myself back to that moment of awe and feel that same feeling still to this day. That was over 20 years ago. I have had many moments of awe since then.  It is most often travel and nature that evoke awe for me.
